March 6: Riverton Grange meeting; 6:00 PM – 118th Anniversary
Potluck/Birthday celebration, followed by the monthly membership meeting at 7:00 PM, at the hall.
Riverton Grange #169 held its regular monthly meeting on February 6 via Zoom. During the meeting, Community Service Chair Tim Sweeney updated members on the Grange’s Veteran of the Month ceremonies, which are held on the first Sunday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverton Grange Hall. These meaningful ceremonies are co- hosted by Riverton American Legion Post #159 and remain an important way the Grange honors local veterans. Kitchen Renovation Committee Chair Judy Doyle reported continued progress on the long-anticipated kitchen renovation project. The plans have received approval from the Town of Barkhamsted and are now out to bid. Once bids are received, the committee will review funding options
and determine next steps.
During the business session, members voted to submit an application for a $1,000 grant from the National Grange Rural Life Initiative. If approved, the grant would support an America 250 program running from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The project will be co-chaired by Dawn Anstett and Tim Sweeney.
The meeting concluded on a celebratory note as members extended birthday wishes to Jackie Martin, who turned 80 on February 10. Lecturer James Mele also hosted a fun and engaging February-themed program for members.
Looking ahead, Riverton Grange will host its 47th Veteran of the Month ceremony on Sunday, March 1, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grange Hall. The Grange’s next meeting will take place on Friday, March 6, beginning with a 118th Anniversary Potluck Dinner at 6:00 p.m., followed by the regular membership meeting at 7:00 p.m. Members and friends are encouraged to attend and help celebrate 118 years of service to the Riverton and Barkhamsted communities.
